So many think that when you have chemotherapy, you lose weight. I myself was looking forward to this part. But it didn’t come.

Instead, 15 kilos came.

I remember asking the doctors why I was putting on so much weight when I was eating the same. They had no idea!! I even spoke to the dietician from the hospital, she was none the wiser.

Oh well, I thought, it will surely start dropping off once the chemo leaves my system.

1 year later I was still overweight

I went to see my gynaecologist who told me the shocking truth!

Chemotherapy makes you sterile!

As a result, I was induced into a medical menopause and as you might know, most woman gain weight at this stage of their lives.

So not only had I undergone hair-loss and vomiting for chemotherapy which didn’t work, but I was also going through menopause and no one told me!

So I spoke to my GP who explained that once a woman begins menopause, the hormones slow down and you need to start eating foods which speed up the metabolism and of course, do sport!

Women who are going through menopause don’t need to eat as much as they are not as hungry due to the fact that their metabolism has slowed down.

Chemotherapy makes you sterile

So here’s what is important to do:

1. Eat 3 times a day, include food containing vitamin C and D for your bone density.
2.See a doctor to evaluate your bone density
3. Do sport on a regular basis. Not this ‘short-term’ sport to lose weight, but sport forever ie. Power walking, Taking the stairs, Swimming, Cycling.

Make sure you buy clothes adapted to your size and not to your previous size. Your body changes when you go through menopause.

Your form will change.

It’s something you have to accept.
A new body! A new you!

Embrace this change, don’t resist it!
